Väestöliitto
(November 2004-October 2005)
The main goal of this project, which was implemented in the district of Vyborg, was to increase young people’s knowledge of sexual and reproductive health, including HIV/AIDS. A series of monthly training sessions on issues related to sexual health were organized for young people, their parents, and for professionals (teachers, psychologists and physicians) who work with young people. A training program to build a cadre of local trainers was implemented during the project, culminating in an educational trip to Finland. Information materials for young people, including a brochure in Russian on sexual rights, were also produced.
Beyond awareness-raising and education, the project also aimed to improve the quantity and quality of sexual health services available for young people. A new model for a “youth-friendly” health clinic was created. The clinic staff will include a gynecologist, psychologist, sexologist, youth worker, and two nurses. In addition to working with the Vyborg district health and education authorities on all these activities, the project also tried to strengthen NGO activity in this field by cooperating with the Youth Parliament and with a number of local women’s organizations.
